Denny's helps veterans stand down

Thirty-nine 39 San Diego area Denny's restaurants are collecting donations of clothes, towels, and hygiene products for Veterans Village of San Diego's 25th Stand Down.

Last year, provisions collected prior to the Annual Stand Down went to more than 1,000 homeless veterans and their families. The annual, three-day event takes place July 13 through July 15 and provides medical services, counseling, legal services, warm meals and more for the military veterans of greater San Diego County.

"We are grateful for Denny's participation and ongoing efforts in supporting our military veterans," said VVSD's President and CEO, Phil Landis. "As citizens of this great country, we must do all we can to support our veterans. With our partnership with Denny's, we'll be better able to assist our veterans in need."

Denny's will also host a Benefit Night on June 13 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. During that time, 10-percent of all sales will go directly to VVSD and Stand Down. VVSD representatives will be on-site at many locations to thank diners for their support and tell them more about the organization's services.

"Denny's is delighted to work with VVSD and show our support for the veterans of San Diego," said Ben Bagnas, a San Diego Denny's franchisee. "Stand Down can be a life-changing opportunity for many veterans and Denny's is proud to be involved with such an important cause."
